My role involved research, concept development, color palette definition, and creating a vector-based digital illustration.
The challenge
The client wanted an illustration that captured the essence of his Toyota GT86 with precision while placing it in a dynamic coastal setting. The main challenge was replicating the complex reflections and shadows on the car’s pearly white body, ensuring it was immediately recognizable.
Additionally, I needed to seamlessly integrate the vehicle into a landscape that balanced the car’s bold presence with the warmth and adventure of the backdrop.
The process
The project began with in-depth research, gathering reference photographs of the Toyota GT86 to capture its unique features. I also studied illustration references for stylistic inspiration, eventually settling on a vertical composition.
This format allowed me to place the car in the foreground, highlighting its sleek design, while a coastal scene in the background provided depth and atmosphere.
The body of the car required meticulous attention to detail, particularly in capturing how the light interacted with its pearlescent finish. I also experimented with various color palettes to evoke a sense of warmth and adventure.
Textured effects were used to enhance specific elements—for instance, the ocean reflects sunlight with a subtle shimmer, while the rocky cliffs gain depth through rugged textures and shading.
After several iterations to fine-tune the lighting and color balance, the final design was created in Adobe Illustrator. This approach allowed for precision and ensured that the artwork could be scaled for high-quality printing at any size.
The solution
The final vector illustration presents the Toyota GT86 in a vibrant coastal setting. The car, with its distinctive pearl white finish and personalized license plate, stands out against a background of soft sunset colors, palm trees, and winding roads that evoke a sense of freedom and adventure.
Textured details in the water and mountains add depth, making the car feel naturally integrated into the landscape.
Conclusion
The client was thrilled with the final result, immediately finding a place to hang the personalized poster in his home. The illustration captured both the pride he takes in his car and his love for scenic coastal drives, combining these elements into a unique piece of art.
